Biography

Stacey Dash (b. January 20, 1966, The Bronx, New York) is an American film and television actress of African American and Native American descent.

Pre-Clueless career

Stacey Dash attended Ramapo High School in Spring Valley, New York. Dash started her career as a child actress on Sesame Street. She later appeared in shows such as The Cosby Show, where she acted beside friend Lisa Bonet, and in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Dash’s first substantial television role was in the 1988 television series, TV 101 which also featured Matt LeBlanc and Sam Robards. The series was cancelled after 13 episodes.

Dash’s first major film role was in the Richard Pryor comedy Moving in 1988. She also had sizeable roles in Mo’ Money and Renaissance Man during this time. In 1995, Dash starred as a femme fatale in a low budget film, Illegal in Blue.

Dash received her big break with the film Clueless with Alicia Silverstone. Dash played the teenager Dionne Marie Davenport even though she was 28 at the time. The film eventually spawned a television spinoff in 1996 titled, Clueless. The series, without Silverstone, ran from 1996-1999. Dash then went on to play Vanessa Weir in the television series, The Strip, which was not successful and was cancelled after a few episodes.

In 2006, she launched her own lingerie line called Letters of Marques. The collection consists of high-end lingerie and lounge wear for the elegant and sophisticated women.

Post-Clueless career

After the TV series Clueless, her credits include View from the Top and smaller budget films, including Gang Of Roses, and Getting Played. She also has appeared in small guest roles on TV shows such as Eve and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

In 2001, Dash was featured in a music video by Carl Thomas, for the single, “Emotional”. In 2004, Dash was featured in a music video by Kanye West, label mate of her cousin Damon Dash, for the single, “All Falls Down.” Aged 40, Stacey Dash posed in the August 2006 issue of Playboy. The same year she was featured in singer Marques Houston’s video, “Favorite Girl”. In 2006, she launched her own lingerie line called Letters of Marque (http://www.lettersofmarque.com/).

In 2007, she completed filming roles in I Could Never be Your Woman, Nora’s Hair Salon II, Fashion Victim, Ghost Image and American Primitive.

For 2008 release, she has filmed Phantom Punch, Secrets Of A Hollywood Nurse for television, and the feature film Close Quarters.

Personal life

Dash is the cousin of Damon Dash, the former CEO and co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records.

Stacey was a close friend of Damon’s late fiancĂ©e, Aaliyah. Her brother is Darien Dash, the CEO of DME Interactive Holdings, the first publicly traded African-American-owned internet company.

In July 1999, Stacey married Brian Lovell. They have one child together: Lola (born 2003). Stacey also has a son, Austin (born 1991). She divorced Brian Lovell in 2006.
